School is almost out and summer is right around the corner. We have lots of events and activities planned for the summer; some are old favorites and others are new. I hope you will be able to join us for any/or all of them.
One new feature to help with summer registration is that we are offering an online option. You can visit the Google form here http://tinyurl.com/summerreg2012 to register. Once you select submit, you will be registered. Descriptions of the events are not included with the online form…just dates, times, and cost. Full descriptions of events can be found below.
We will continue to have paper forms for registration if that is what you prefer. Here is a link to a description of summer events and the Summer 2012 Registration Flyer.
Summer Event Descriptions:
Vacation Bible School – June 20-24, 9:30 AM – Noon. This is a great way to support our Children’s program. Help is needed in a variety of ways. Contact Mrs. Sue if you are interested and can help, 521-0282
Sr. & Jr. High Assembly • June 25 – 29 • Join us for these annual Holston Conference events held at Tennessee Wesleyan College, a favorite summer event of many of our youth. Registration information can be found online at www.holstonyouth.com. You do NOT register for these events through our church, they are sent directly to the conference office. FYI…Marc is directing Jr. High Assembly.
M.A.D. in the City • July 8-11. Making a Difference in the City is a Church Street favorite summer event. For three days we spend our mornings at Wesley House playing with these special children. After lunch we pick them up on a school bus and take them places like Celebration Station or bowling. Each evening, we have some fun of our own. We will spend the night at the church Sunday, Monday & Tuesday night, so bring the appropriate stuff. The cost for the event will be $75 per person which includes all of your food. You will need to bring money for our evening activities that are TBA. M.A.D. in the City kicks off on Sunday the 8th after Sunday school with a day at the Tudor’s lake home (swimming, boating, good food, etc). We will be done on Wednesday afternoon about 4:30 PM. The registration deadline for M.A.D. in the City is July 3, no exceptions.
Rafting the Ocoee River • Thursday, July 19 • Join us for a wet and wild trip down the Ocoee River. Cost for this trip is $35 plus meal money. We will leave at 10:30 AM from Church Street (bring lunch with you) and return around 7 PM. This trip requires special release forms and these will be emailed to those who register to go.
Operation Backyard • July 26-28 • Our summer construction mission project will be right here in Knoxville. We will be working with Knoxville Leadership Foundation to replace roofs and help with other housing projects in order to make homes more safe and drier. This is a Thursday through Saturday project. We will not spend the night at the church but will gather at the church each morning at 8 AM to head out for our day of service. Lunch will be provided each day and we will wrap up between 5-6 PM each day. These projects are open to all ages. We prefer parents be present for middle schoolers to work on a roof, although middle schoolers are welcome to participate in all other projects without a parent. We will also need several adults to pull these projects off. Construction skills aren’t necessary; a sprit of flexibility and a willingness to learn are. Cost will be $50 per participant.
Mid-week Bible Studies • If interest is sufficient we will continue high school bible study on Tuesday evenings, 8:30 PM at Starbucks (or Chik-fil-A) in Bearden. Middle school study will be Wednesday late afternoon or evening depending on interest.
Potential Sunday Events • we are looking to add occassional Sunday events like: movie outings, Putt-putt, Biking the greenways, hiking in the Smokies. All options can be seen in the online registration form at: http://tinyurl.com/summerreg2012.
It will be extremely helpful if all registrations, however you choose to submit them, be in as soon as possible and June 17 at the absolute latest. And just as a reminder…we will NOT accept MAD in the City registrations after July 3.
Again, if you would like to register online, visit: http://tinyurl.com/summerreg2012.
Peace,
